“As my core strength increased, I started carrying myself in stronger, more powerful ways everyday. There's a spill-over effect that feels great - like a younger self coming out to play." - Diane D.

“Do you remember the joy of uninhibited movement and play when you were a child?  Of just following your impulses and reacting to ideas, images, music and rhythms?  ...Danielle uses vivid imagery and humor to guide you effortlessly through the simple exercises, stretches and dance steps choreographed to new-age and world music.  During a typical Nia class I imagine myself in many different ways; as a Celtic clansman doing a jig on the windswept moor, an earth-goddess creating breezes and swirling the clouds above me with my long, willowy arms, a fashion model commanding attention as I boldly strut down the runway, a queen posing as the heavy bass thuds at a dance club, a speed skater gliding down an icy track, a Persian princess mesmerizing the audience with my silk scarf dance in a dimly-lit cafe, a tribesman becoming enveloped in the rhythm of African drums, a graceful practitioner of Tai Chi, a fearsome kick-boxer, or a 70's disco star.  With all that activity, the hour flies by.  And, before you know it you can say you've done your exercise for the day! Sound a bit goofy?  Don't sweat it.  Everybody else in class is in their own little world as well.  Nia participants are a playful, accepting bunch who celebrate the joy of movement and being in the moment.”  – Jennifer M.

“Nia is so hard to describe with words. It's inadequate to read about compared to experiencing it in one's own time. I wish there was a way to zap the feeling I have at the beginning of class all the way to the end into those who have never tried it before.... Excitement at the beginning, and by the end when all drenched from head to toe in sweat I was blissful and elated, but most of all content. Though, class was always over too soon, there was never anything missing because Nia covers all the bases necessary that leaves one feeling complete. No part isolated, none is forgotten, while another overworked...It's quite honestly a perfect balance of what feels necessary to become more strong and agile mentally, and physically.

It is an masterpiece in the art of exercise because it's not only the human body that is conditioned, it is the human being. It is a fusion of the mind, body and soul; creating a more toned, agile, stronger body, and also more confidence, joy, serenity, creativity and mindfulness. It is a quiet teacher in helping you learn the language of your own unique body through directed movements and motions, and naturally integrating the freedom for each person to self-express their own styles of movement that feels good for them into each session.

Nia had a way of always clearing any debris on that road between my mind and heart. I had to overcome my own shyness and inhibitions to self-express in the spontaneous carefree ways I desired. Nia made me want to let go of everything from the day or days before to be as mindful, and alert to each moment as I could. My instructor, Danielle Eastman, brought an awesome amount of patience, knowledge, and variety of creative skill to every class. Her positive, joyful energy was without a doubt an always faithful catalyst to everyone in the class. Class was free of judgments, and never boring...It is fun, spontaneous, calming and free...Those are the same feelings I could carry with me out of class. The more Nia I did, the easier it became for me to integrate and sustain my joy, freedom, serenity, with the fusion of my body, mind, and soul into all different areas of my life. Whatever my body was in need of or had a void of that day became obvious in Nia class. It's so easy to get stuck in the blue lands of the doldrums on a cold, cloudy day in Feb. or get caught up and lost in the haste of never ending homework, studying and jobs.  The art of Nia itself has a formula that could wake up my innate voice, and by the end of class I was able to allow myself to need the things I really needed, and allowed me to break inhibitions that were tying me down. To be open to accepting what I perhaps had been shying away from or simply not recognizing, and other times it the basic suppression of emotion and my own self-expression throughout the day that i was finally able to release...It was great to be involved in such an awesome essence of fusion, wholeness and freedom. By the end of the class I was always surprised to find my hair, and clothes soaked in sweat. It's an exercise that fits so naturally I never thought of it as work.

Here's a shorter version: Nia is awesome. Danielle E. is the coolest instructor ever. Anyone who likes to dance (in public or alone) will fall in love with Nia, and have a long happy relationship with it!”  – Kristy G.
